16m tune in as Kerry romps home to win I'm a Celebrity

LONDON - Almost 16m people watched former girl band member Kerry McFadden romp home last night to become the first woman to win ITV1's 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' as 3m people voted.

Last night the one-and-a-half hour show averaged 14.1m viewers, giving ITV1 a 54.5% share. The show peaked at 15.7m, giving it a whopping 61.1% share and making the third series of 'I'm a Celebrity...' the most successful yet.

The ex-member of Atomic Kitten McFadden described winning as "a fantasy" as the 23-year old, who was a rank outsider at 20-1 at the start of the show, beat former pop star Peter Andre and former BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond.

Andre was the first of the three to be voted out leaving McFadden and Bond at the final shootout. She had been the favourite to win the show following the exit of John Lydon and Jordan.

ITV can be extremely pleased with the result as more people voted in this year's final than during the finals of the previous two series, which were won by Tony Blackburn and Phil Tufnell.

After exiting the jungle McFadden told presenters Ant and Dec: "I'm a wimp. I can't believe I am sat here. I'm gobsmacked."

She was joined on set by her husband Bryan, the Westlife singer, in a surprise appearance after the presenters joked with her that he could not make it because of work commitments. McFadden burst into tears crying: "Oh my God. Oh my God, it feels really weird, this does."

In winning she has raised £1m for her charity of choice the Variety Club of Ireland.

Of the winners and losers token toff and convicted fraudster Lord Brockett and model Jordan who are expected to do best out of the show.

Projections of earnings Jordan could make have rocketed to £1.5m as her agent fields offers to host quiz shows, ads and more modelling work. Likewise, Lord Brockett is said to have been offered TV quiz shows, pantomime work and nude centrefold modelling for a women's magazine.

Lydon is also expected to do well out of offers but it is unclear whether the already wealthy former Sex Pistol will take any of them up.

On his exit Andre was reunited with Jordan. When asked about her feelings for Andre, Jordan said: "Everyone knows. He knows I am [interested in him]. He knows."

Andre then said: "I am sure everyone knows -- I am not saying this to put you on the spot -- when she is herself, when she is her sweet self, she is the best."

After being shown an interview with Jordan, where she said she had liked him all along Andre told Ant and Dec: "How could someone say 'No' to that? She is a wonderful girl. I did not expect us to click like that. This Jordan that I saw in the pictures, it was too wild for me."
