Lydon says he left jungle to 'give the others a chance'

LONDON - Former Sex Pistol John Lydon claimed he quit ITV show 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!' because he thought he was going to win the game and did not want to 'turn into Des O'Connor'.

Speaking to hosts Ant and Dec last night, Lydon said: "Let's face it, I won this thing on the first day." He said that he wanted to give the others a chance.

"It's important for the remainders, they're in it for the game. I'm beginning to be an irritant to them because I'm not here for that and I know they are all suspecting that I'm gonna run off with it and I didn't mean that to be the case," he said.

Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten from 70s punk band the Sex Pistols, left the camp in Australia on Thursday morning.

Jordan said that she thought that Lydon decided to leave after seeing fellow contestant Neil "Razor" Ruddock evicted from the jungle camp on Wednesday. The former footballer had at one stage been a favourite to win.

"He'd rather walk himself than someone tell him to walk and Neil went and he thought there might have been a chance he'd go too," she said.

Lydon meanwhile referred to the glamour model as "silicone valley" in a scathing rant to the Geordie hosts of the show. But Jordan was not the only one with her ears burning. In the jungle the bookies' new favourite to win, Lord Brockett, referred to Jennie Bond as an "old slapper" to fellow contestants.

Out of the remaining six contestants, Lydon said he would like to see Kerry McFadden win.

A spokesperson for ITV said of John: "He has been fantastic entertainment on the show and viewers and his fellow celebrities have found him to be an endearing, eccentric and sensitive character."

The broadcaster has now put in place a time delay so that no more surprise profanities go out on air following Lydon's "fucking c**ts" outburst earlier this week. Regulator Ofcom received 91 complaints.
