The former Sex Pistol singer left the jungle camp just before 3am British time after hugging his fellow contestants. Since his departure ITV has said he will not be allowed to return and he will not be replaced by a stand-in, sparing the public an appearance by Timmy Mallet. ITV said Lydon was lined up to appear on its show tonight.
Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: "Brocket was initially a 14/1 outsider but money in recent days and the departure of hot favourite Lydon has seen him rocket into the lead."
He added: "We are shocked but pleased by John Lydon's departure, he had been a strong favourite to win from the third day and was a rotten result for bookmakers."
Kerry McFadden has overtaken Jordan and is now 2/1 second favourite to win overall. Jordan has drifted to 4/1 from 5/2 as stories about her affairs with just about everyone have started to turn the public against her.
Last night saw Jordan and Andre enjoy their first real kiss. The two then giggled after they realised they had been kissing in front of the cameras.
Former footballer Neil "Razor" Ruddock was the latest celebrity to officially get the boot last night. He joins athlete Diane Modahl and former BBC Radio 1 DJ Mike Read.
The stars rebelled against pleas from producers to liven up the show yesterday. They were promised more wine if they were "more entertaining". Ruddock said: "Stick it. They've had enough telly out of us today". This was backed by Lord Brockett who urged the other contestants to take off their microphones.
Lydon's shock exit follows his recent profane live-on-air outburst on Tuesday's show. ITV1 apologised for any offence caused.
