Tenon's Mark Liddle confirmed: "Sales have dropped because of the economic climate and as a result Weekends Direct has ceased trading."

The business has relocated to the address of accountant Croad & Co in its native Bournemouth. Croad & Co founder Raymond Croad failed to respond to calls from Event magazine to confirm whether the business is to liquidate or has entered administration, although a staffer said the accountant had been working with Weekends Direct "for quite a while".

The company's Facebook site has not had any new entries since 11 May, although suppliers told Event that they had contact with the firm as recently as Friday 14 August.

Those with services booked in with the agency said they were concerned about payment and future contracts they have with the company.

Weekends Direct did not answer any of Event's calls.
