The embattled , but the company owners have blamed the UK banking system for its demise.
"Unfortunately Weekends Direct have (sic) been let down drastically by the UK banking system and after an unblemished record for three and a half years our credit card provider demanded a huge sum of money without notice. It destroyed our cash flow and they also started deducting a percentage of every transaction and were holding it for six months regardless of the travel date. This crippled us and we had nowhere to turn to," said the firm in a text message statement to Event magazine.
The firm said it "regretted" the situation, although that has done little to placate some suppliers.
"They took our booking in the last few weeks and we will lose almost £1,500 over this," said The Adrenaline Jungle director Don Logan. "Hotels and activity centres I've spoken to have been taken for thousands of pounds."
Earlier today Event revealed , sparking industry fears the liquidation may be part of a phoenix operation, but the firm said this was not the case.
"As for the UK Activity Centre, it was set up to help rescue the situation but unfortunately didn't have enough time and also ceases to trade with immediate effect," the text said. "We are working very closely with a very approachable administrator to help as many customers and suppliers as possible."
Due to Event's forums one stag-do will have a happy ending. Freedom Stag and Hen has offered a replacement party at Jongleurs for one disappointed customer.
