Sony Pictures appoints Spinnaker as digital agency

LONDON – Sony Pictures Releasing, the distributor behind 'Closer' and 'Spider-Man 2', has appointed Spinnaker as its digital marketing agency with responsibility for its consumer database.

Spinnaker will develop online campaigns to support the release of forthcoming titles, such as 'Bewitched' starring Nicole Kidman, 'The Legend of Zorro' with Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, and the eagerly awaited 'The Da Vinci Code' starring Tom Hanks and Audrey Tatou.

Spinnaker will create video-streaming emails, online advertising using rich-media formats, viral marketing initiatives and online partnerships depending on the size of the campaign. 

As part of the appointment, Spinnaker will be taking over the management of Sony Pictures' consumer database and will be responsible for developing and implementing its consumer contact strategy. 

Spinnaker will work with the Publicity team to maximise Bafta member screening attendance for key Sony Pictures award contenders. 

Stuart Williams, marketing director for Sony Pictures, said: "Spinnaker clearly understands the challenges we face and it has been refreshing in its approach."

The first campaign Spinnaker will be involved in is for 'Stealth', starring Jamie Foxx, which is released on August 5. 'Stealth' tells the story of a computer-controlled fighter in the near future who goes rogue.

Brooke Dalton-Brewer, managing partner at Spinnaker, added: "The release schedule for next year, not to mention the next few months, is massively exciting, and with such a vast array of titles across the family, animation, action, drama and arthouse genres, we will certainly be keeping busy."
