As part of the redesign the newspaper's editor, Geordie Greig, is hoping to attract new advertisers by offering more partnership opportunities and greater flexibility.

The regional newspaper hits stands today with a redesigned masthead, new writers and a change in content after its ‘Sorry' campaign aimed to give the publication a fresh start last week.

Greig intends to ‘reconnect with the greatest city in the world' and hopes the new content will relate better to readers.

The paper includes new sections such as trends, fashion and style, health, property, London life and film and arts. It also features new columns by writer Sam Leith and stand-up comic Chris Addison.

A new-look ES magazine will be free with Friday's paper as usual. The London Evening Standard website has also been redesigned to improve usability, provide clearer navigation and new content. The homepage showcases content from the newspaper and features a new masthead and colour palette. Blogs and Twitter feeds will post up to the minute news and opinion.

The newspaper has attracted criticism over its latest ad campaign. The ‘Sorry' posters were placed in tube stations and on buses.

The paper was sold to Russian oligarch Alexander Lebedev for £1 in January by the Daily Mail and General Trust publishing Group.

The Evening Standard has recorded a 6.3% year-on-year circulation fall in the past two months.
