Whichever firm wins the blue riband events brief will see their efforts realised in front of a worldwide audience of at least one billion.

LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games) is inviting expression of interest from live events production companies on tender website .

"The UK is a global centre of excellence in the live event industry, and we are looking to work with the best to produce the greatest show on earth. The opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games welcome the word to celebrate the Games and are watched by a worldwide audience of approximately one billion people," said LOCOG director of culture, ceremonies and education Bill Morris.

"We would welcome expressions of interest from companies with a proven track record in delivering large-scale events, preferably in an Olympic and Paralympic environment."

LOCOG plans to complete a shortlist before Christmas this year. Successful companies will be asked to present in early January 2010. It is expected that the operational structure will be operational from April 1 2010.
