Earlier in the evening, a repeat of BBC One's family-friendly 'Doctor Who', which went out at 6pm-7pm, achieved a 13.4% share with 2.1m viewers tuning in.
However, running at the same time, ITV1's 'You've Been Framed' outperformed the BBC sci-fi drama, commanding 3.7m viewers and a 23.5% share.
BBC One's obstacle course game show 'Total Wipeout', which aired between 7pm and 8pm, continued to take the ratings by storm. It achieved a 24.8% share with 4.6m viewers -- the highest audience share of the terrestrial channels in that timeslot.
Rivalling it was ITV1s flagship game show 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'. It attracted just over 4m viewers and a share of 20.5% at 7.55pm-8.55pm.
The audience figures for Channel 4's Big Brother will add further fuel to those calling for its abolition. The once schedule-dominating reality show only managed to pull in 1.6m viewers on Saturday night at 9pm, a 7.8% share, while another 274,000 viewers tuned in on Channel 4+1 an hour later.
The clear winner in the 9pm slot was BBC One medical drama 'Casualty'. It attracted almost a quarter of the total TV audience and was watched by 5.1m viewers, a 24.6% share.
ITV1's 'A Touch Of Frost' brought in 3.5m viewers and an 18.2% share in its 8.55pm-10.55pm slot.
BBC Two did not fare badly on Saturday night -- an episode of the oft-repeated comedy 'Dads' Army' at 7pm was watched by 2.5m viewers (a 14.3% share), while coverage of the BBC Proms half an hour later commanded a 9.8% share and an audience of 1.9m.
Friday night was eviction night on 'Big Brother', yet its ratings performance was lacklustre when housemate Noirin was kicked out of the house -- it drew an audience of 2.5m and a share of 12.2%.
Airing at the same time, 'Doc Martin' on ITV1 triumphed, pulling in 4.1m viewers and a 19.9% share while BBC One's 'Hotel Babylon' was watched by 3.1m viewers, a share of 15%.
