BBC One's New Tricks leads ITV1 by 4.5m viewers

LONDON - BBC One topped the ratings last night with police drama 'New Tricks' reeling in 8.1m viewers and a 34.1% share, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The second episode of the new series starring Dennis Waterman dominated the 9pm-10pm slot, with ITV1's 'Living with Michael Jackson: A Tonight Special' coming in a distant second with 3.6m viewers.

The edited repeat of Martin Bashir's 2003 documentary took a 15.3% share of the audience.

BBC Two managed 2.4m viewers and a 10.2% share with 9pm-9.30pm comedy panel show 'Mock The Week', dropping to 1.6m and 6.5% for 'That Mitchell and Webb Look'.

Channel 4's 'Gerry's Big Decision' at 9pm-10pm pulled in 1.2m viewers and a 4.8% share. Another 136,000 viewers catching it on Channel 4+1.

Five scored 1.6m viewers and a 6.8% share for 'The Mentalist' in the same slot.

'Big Brother' came in third in the 10pm-11pm slot, being watched by 2.1m and taking a 12.3% share, behind BBC News with 26.9% and News at Ten with 13%.

A further 142,000 tuned in to watch 'Big Brother' on Channel 4+1.
