BBC Two's financial drama Freefall earns 1.9m viewers

LONDON - 'Freefall', a drama about the bursting of the mortgage bubble in 2007, notched up a decent 1.9m viewers for BBC Two last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

Although BBC Two still trailed the other terrestrial channels in the key 9pm-10pm slot, it improved on its recent performance by taking an 8.8% share of the audience with the drama, which ran from 9pm to 10.30pm.

Featuring Dominic Cooper as an immoral mortgage broker and Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding making her acting debut as his wife, 'Freefall' was judged "slick but crashingly unsubtle" by the Daily Telegraph.

The best ratings in the 9pm-10pm slot went to BBC One, with the commercial terrestrial channels clustered together around the mid 2m audience mark.

BBC One scored 4.1m viewers and an 18.5% share with documentary 'What's Really In Our Food?'.

ITV1 was closest behind with 2.6m viewers tuning into the first of a 'Trial and Retribution' two-parter, giving it an 11.8% share.

'CSI:Miami' gave Five 2.4m viewers and an 11% share, just ahead of 'Big Brother' on 2.3m and 10.3%.

Currently featuring former housemates dropping in to compete with the new crop on tasks, 'Big Brother' was watched by another 289,000 on Channel 4+1.
