The case of a murder within the art world gave the channel a 26.4% share of viewing between 8pm and 10pm, beating off competition from the likes of new BBC Two cooking series 'Economy Gastronomy', 'Who Do You Think You Are?' and 'Dragon's Den'.
'Economy Gastronomy' pulled in 1.8m viewers and an 8.4% share at 8pm-9pm, while returning Channel 4 favourite 'Location Location Location' showed little sign of wear and tear with 2.3m and an 11.2% share. Another 203,000 viewers saw the show on Channel 4+1.
At 9pm-10pm, with 'Midsomer Murders' peaking at 6.1m viewers, BBC One's 'Who Do You Think You Are?', this week featuring 'Peep Show' comedian David Mitchell, attracted a smaller than usual audience of 4.1m and share of 17.3%.
'Dragon's Den' in the same slot brought in 3.1m giving BBC Two a 13.2% share.
'Big Brother' dipped below the 2m mark with 1.9m viewers and a 7.9% share, though its repeat on Channel 4+1 was seen by a substantial 501,000.
Five's Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal season continued with Van Damme opus 'Until Death' garnering 1m viewers between 9pm and 11.10pm, a 5.3% share.
