The shows at the international arts festival will contribute to the
Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre will convert its Lowland Hall into a theatrical space to house three productions which are on too large a scale for conventional theatres. They include the French play Les Naufragés du Fol Espoir and 2008: Macbeth, a multi-media interpretation of Shakespeare’s work.
Edinburgh International Festival released its 2012 lineup today. It takes place from 9 August – 2 September and will feature performances of theatre, dance, opera and music by nearly 3,000 artists from around the world.
Ruth Mackenzie, director of the London 2012 Festival said: "Edinburgh International Festival along with Creative Scotland are key partners in delivering a fantastic programme for the London 2012 Festival in Scotland, which will deliver a legacy of new audiences and partnerships leading right up to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This programme is a great example of the once-in-a-lifetime shows which will bring tourists and visitors to Edinburgh as part of the celebrations of the London 2012 Festival."
Tickets were also released at 10am today for the final series of London 2012 test events, which give the public the chance to watch sport in Olympic venues before the Games take place. Tickets are on sale for synchronised swimming, hockey, wheelchair tennis, water polo and paralympic athletics events.
The test events will allow Locog to test operations in the Olympic Park for the first time, as all five venues will be holding events simultaneously for more than 70,000 spectators on 5 May.
