The exhibition features examples of the colourful dressing and bunting that will be on display throughout the city, and examples of how high streets and towns will be celebrating the Olympics.

Johnson also revealed that Games-time volunteers will wear British trilby hats as part of their uniforms.

He joined a team of 30 London Ambassadors this morning to unveil the uniforms they will wear this summer.

Johnson said: "With their purple shirts and quintessentially British trilby hats, there can be no doubt that our Team London Ambassadors will be a highly visible presence during the Games. These volunteers have come on a fantastic journey since we launched the quest to recruit our volunteer army, and I am really proud of the public-spirited people we have on board."

Eight thousand volunteers will be based at 43 locations across the city during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, to welcome visitors to London and provide advice on moving around the city.
