London 2012 Festival launches with five spectacular shows

Five headline events across the UK will mark the start of the London 2012 Festival today.

In Stirling, world-famous conductor Gustavo Dudamel will lead The Big Concert with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela.
 
Lake Windermere will host On the Nightshift – an outdoor pyrotechnic and percussion extravaganza.

In Derry, Pixie Lott and Imelda May are performing among many other artists at the Peace One Day concert, celebrating the theme of the ancient tradition of the Olympic Truce.

Opening the London 2012 Festival in Wales is artist Jeremy Deller’s life-size inflatable replica of Stonehenge, Sacrilege, which will pop up for the first time at the National Botanical Gardens in Carmarthen.

And in Birmingham, a gigantic ship will sail into the town centre accompanied by dancers and aerialists.

The London 2012 Festival and will feature floating opera, street gigs and a host of pop-up events.
