Desert Island Brands - Glenn Tutssel

A chance to pick five brands that you would like to find washed up on the beach if you were a castaway. What would you choose and why? design consultancy Pemberton & Whitefoord asks Glenn Tutssel, executive creative director of Enterprise IG.

1. Survival essential
Making a shelter, finding food and attempting to escape are going to be high on your agenda -- so which brand will you find most useful in your attempt to tame the great outdoors?
A Winchester, no trying to catch fish with a branch and a bit of string for me, and you can eat only so much fruit so any game will be most rewarding.

2. Last taste of civilisation
The island has a plentiful supply of nuts and fruit, not to mention a healthy population of fish, so you will have plenty to eat. But which one food brand are you really going to miss from your old life?
Hellman's Mayonnaise will make even the saddest salad delicious.

3. Best reminder of home
Successful survivalists always claim that it is mental attitude which sees them through. Belief that you will get back home is going to be vital -- so which brand will sum up home best?
Bang & Olufsen -- if it still works having been washed up music will be a must and beats the sound of parrots squawking.

4. Most welcome online brand
Eventually you manage to rig up your own connection to the internet using bits and pieces found on the beach but you have only one chance to log on to a website before it goes down -- which online brand will you choose?
Survival.com, great tips on how to enjoy this new-found freedom.

5. Ultimate luxury
Self indulgence is hard to come by on a desert island, so what brand would you be most excited to find washed up on the beach?
Talisker whisky with all the time in the world to savour its delicate taste.

6. Transferable skills
You already work in the jungle of marketing so there are probably skills which you have acquired through your job which will come in handy -- or you may have other hidden talents. Which of your personal skills will help you to get to grips with life on a desert island?
Firefighting and starting them to cook all that meat and fish.

Adrian Whitefoord, founding partner of Pemberton and Whitefoord, comments:
Glenn conjures up a contented image, snug and warm by his campfire, sipping a wee dram of Talisker from half a coconut shell, eating a mayo-covered critter he has just dispatched with his rifle, while listening to his favourite CDs play on the B&O (perhaps a sea shanty compilation by Ronco?).

He is clearly a decisive chap who knows what he wants. Unlike most of the human flotsam and jetsam washed up on the island, he seems more intent on surviving and thriving rather than finding a way back to old Blighty.

My only concern is, with jar and bottle empty, bullets spent and matches (where did he get them from?) sodden with seawater, those fleeting moments reviewing Survival.com will be put to the test. Let hope Glenn carefully scrutinised the sections on "how to hunt small mammals with your shoe", "100 things you can do with a gecko" and "how to mollify a witch doctor who is rather keen to shrink your head and wear it on a wrist thong".
