With the new platform, viewers can now join one of three Babelgum communities based around films and festivals, motorcycling and nature and conservation. These are the first three of a series of niche spaces including video clips, an interactive message board, and links to profiles of members with shared interests in the subject.
Users can also now create and manage their own new niche communities, as well as customise their profiles and create personal favourite video playlists.
As well as via communities, content can also be accessed through the traditional genre and branded channels within the channel directory, the search engine, user-created smart channels and the most watched and rated videos.
Meanwhile, a new content management system enables professional content producers, rights owners and programme partners to manage and monetise their assets.
"The new site sophistication, along with an ever burgeoning content library certainly ensures we are giving our users what they want and when they want to view it but with much greater ease and enjoyment," said Valerio Zingarelli, CEO of Babelgum.
Babelgum's web TV platform is available at . After downloading the software, users will have access to the services and content, including the 1000-plus short film entries recently made available as part of the Babelgum Online Film Festival.
Babelgum has struck a number of content deals in recent months, including one to create a music video channel with Ministry of Sound.
