Wallpaper founder Brule plans trendy business magazine

LONDON – Tyler Brule, the founder of Wallpaper magazine, is working on the launch of a new title, which is being described as a 'trendy Economist'.

Brule will launch the new magazine through his Winkreative consultancy, which earlier this year appointed Jerry Fielder, the former chairman of advertising agency Leagas Delaney, as chief executive.

Brule is currently trying to raise money for the new title, which will tackle business issues with a glossy-style magazine take.

Brule parted company with Wallpaper when he stood down as editorial director in 2002 to focus on his creative publishing business Winkreative, which he set up in 1998 while still working on Wallpaper.

He left the magazine as his relationship with publisher IPC Media came under increasing pressure, following the Wallpaper Group being brought under the control of IPC after the UK consumer publisher was bought by Wallpaper parent AOL Time Warner, as Time Warner was then known.

Brule is renowned for his extravagant conduct and way of doing business and his style was seen as a poor fit with the rigid corporate structure of publishing houses. Brule launched Wallpaper in 1996 and sold it to Time Inc in 1997.
