Wall Street film helps Smart deliver 712,000 impacts

Michael Douglas' re-appearance in the second Wall Street film, 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', has helped an ad for the Smart Fortwo deliver 712,000 impacts in the film's first weekend.

The ad features a young man driving the car through a metropolis at night. The car induces vibrations that cause people in nearby flats to feel tremors and office windows to smash.

At the end the man gets out of the car and all the broken glass returns to the windows as if nothing has happened. The spot ends with the strapline: ‘The new generation smart fortwo: surprisingly entertaining.’

The spot, which was created by AMV BBDO with media planned and bought by Maxus, also ran against a selection of other films in DCM cinemas including 'Eat Pray Love', 'Buried' and 'Tamara Drewe'.

The Smart Fortwo is promoted as being one of the lowest C02 emission vehicles in the UK today.

'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', stars Douglas reprising his role as the ruthless financier Gordon Gekko from the 1987 Oscar-winning original. According to figures from Digital Cinema Media, the film delivered 384,136 impacts and took in £1.8 million in its opening weekend last week.

Films that launched last weekend included the comedy 'Life As We Know It', starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhumel, about two people trying to raise their friend's baby together.

The comedy delivered 189,530 impacts and took £985,558 at the box office.
