Samsung receives 1.9 million impacts as Titans stays top at box office

LONDON - The ongoing success of the 3D epic 'Clash of the Titans' helped electronics manufacturer Samsung generate an estimated 1.9 million cinema impacts last weekend, according to figures from cinema sales house Digital Cinema Media.

The "Samsung Monte" ad stars a young man talking about how easy it is to keep in touch with his friends and loved ones though the new Samsung Monte handset, which has preinstalled social networking apps.

The Samsung ad, in activity planned and bought by Publicis media agency Starcom, ran against 11 of the 15 most-watched films over the weekend including ‘Kick-Ass', ‘Alice in Wonderland' and ‘Shutter Island'.

The most-watched film was ‘Clash of the Titans' from Warner Bros, which delivered an estimated 498,302 impacts over the weekend. The 3D blockbuster has delivered an estimated 2.6 million impacts since its release.

The second most-watched film of the weekend was the second of Emma Thompson's Nanny McPhee films, ‘Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang', from Universal, with an estimated 295,048 impacts.

However, because Nanny McPhee was watched by a large proportion of children, it only generated the fourth-highest box office takings of the weekend, behind the third and fourth most-watched films.

‘How to Train Your Dragon', the new film from Shrek animators Dreamworks, was the third most-watched film of the weekend, with an estimated 279,803 impacts.

The fourth most-watched film was Universal's Matthew Vaughn comedy ‘Kick-Ass' which generated an estimated 243,075 impacts.
