London-based caterer Rhubarb created a menu according to BITC’s brief, which focused on using sustainable, British produce.
The menu was designed around a summer sharing concept, with diners arriving at their table to find a picnic basket and mini astro lawn arranged on it.More than 200 members of staff worked across the catering and front of house for the event, with sponsors including Marks & Spencer.
Prime Minister David Cameron said: "It’s a real pleasure to celebrate the work of so many of our leading businesses who are helping to make our country a better place. Business in the Community are the great champions of this cause. And it’s absolutely right that they should hold this event - the Oscars of good, responsible business."
The Responsible Business of the Year award went to Jaguar Land Rover, who invested £2.75bn in new technologies to deliver more sustainable products, reduce energy consumption per car by 21%, reduce waste by 37% and reduce water by 10%, and enabled two million young people to improve their skills.
Anita Dennis, head of events at Business in the Community, said: "Our Responsible Business awards gala dinner is Business in the Community’s flagship event and is attended by more than 1,000 senior business leaders. There is no room not to deliver on the night.
"Our catering brief this year was extremely challenging, yet Rhubarb absolutely delivered on the night, creating a unique dining experience complete with edible garden. The entire meal was a real talking point for our guests, helping to make the evening one that will be remembered for a long time to come."
