Publishers vie for airline magazines

LONDON - Ink Publishing is among the UK firms pitching for a multimillion pound contract to publish seven magazines for Hong Kong-based airline group Cathay Pacific Airways.

Pitches are taking place this week and next, with a decision expected within a fortnight. Emphasis Media, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based PubliGroupe that specialises in in-flight magazines and media sales, has held the account for 10 years and is bidding to keep the business.

The magazines, published in Chinese and English, cater for the 16.5 million passengers travelling on Cathay Pacific and Dragonair flights each year. They include Cathay Pacific's on-board title, Discovery, Dragonair's Silk Road, shopping magazines and titles for the airline's frequent and business travellers.

Ink has offices in Hong Kong and recently won the contract for Oasis, Hong Kong Airlines' in-flight magazine for long-haul travellers.

It previously beat Emphasis to publish CNN Traveller Asia Pacific and a magazine for China Airlines.
