CNN intends to open up its video library to the public and gain revenue from advertising around video content. The news service will also offer more lifestyle content.
Nick Wrenn, CNN International's managing editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said that, while "hard news comes first", the new site aims to offer much more than just "bullets and bombs". He said CNN.com was evolving and that lifestyle programming was part of this. CNN has developed nine feature programmes that have attracted sponsorship.
Wrenn said that 1 July, the date of the relaunch, will be the first of several landmark dates in the development of CNN's web offering. CNN has been beta testing its new site for several weeks but will unveil the complete version on Sunday.
