Orange calls on singing public for RockCorps push

LONDON - Orange has launched a new music app to promote its voluntary service to young people.

The   lets users create their own versions of popular music by recording their own singing through their PC microphone or mobile phone.

The app, which was created by Poke, encourages users to connect through Facebook to create joint tracks with friends and to share their creations, and updates will also appear in their newsfeeds.

It will be updated every month to include new tracks and will feature a top performance sectio, showcasing the best tracks.

Orange RockCorps is a volunteer programme which encourages young people to get involved in their local community by offering tickets to exclusive gigs in return.

Orange is placing social networking at the heart of its mobile business, after it's most recent digital media index found a 129 per cent increase in monthly page impressions and a 48 per cent increase in monthly unique visitors, through customers using their phones to access social media.

In July Orange relaunched its music service to complement mobile services available with Nokia's Comes With Music, offering customers DRM-free downloads.

Customers own the music they download, with the option to store it on PCs, mobiles, CDs and MP3 players. Downloaded music is automatically transferred to both mobiles and PCs, but customer will only be charged once.
