O2 commissions made-for-mobile drama series

LONDON - Mobile operator O2 has commissioned 'Big Brother' producer Endemol to create a 20-part made-for-mobile drama series.

The programme, called 'Cell', will premiere on O2 mobiles in December and will then be distributed online and made available to viewers on other mobile networks.

Endemol UK has teamed up with mobile content studio Mobstar Media to create the programme, which is being made in 20 two-minute chunks to cater for an on-the-move audience.

The series, described by Mobstar as a "blockbuster thriller", begins with a man finding himself locked in a lawless prison, with no idea how he got there or who is holding him. All he has in his cell is a mobile phone, and a mysterious voice at the other end.

'Cell' is the latest commission for Endemol's mobile content division, which since late 2005 has worked on a number of made-for-mobile projects, including a behind-the-scenes interactive reality show following the movements of pop trio, the Sugababes.

Pasa Mustafa, Endemol UK digital content producer, said: "What makes 'Cell' a first is that we're applying production values normally associated with TV or film to a made-for-mobile series."
