Morrison's has delivered the fastest year-on-year growth. In the 12 weeks to 12 July 2009 its share grew to 11.6%, compared with a 11.2% share in the 12 weeks to 13 July 2008. TNS said this 22nd successive period of market share growth was due to ‘the combination of a strong 'Price Crunch' message and the focus on fresh food.'

For the same period Asda grew market share from 16.7% to 17.0%, with Sainsbury's also moving 15.7% to 16%. Waitrose shifted its share slightly from 3.8% to 3.9%, which is primarily due to the success of its Essentials range and new store openings. Tesco dropped its share however from 30.9% to 30.8%.

TNS said that the growth of the discounters had again slowed slightly.
