Duffy and ITV1 both winners as 5.2m tune into Brit Awards

LONDON - ITV1's broadcast of the Brit Awards won over primetime viewers last night as 5.2m tuned in for a 21.6% audience share, beating BBC One documentary 'Nature's Great Events', according to unofficial overnight figures.

Airing at 8pm-10pm, the Brit Awards peaked at 9pm with 5.7m viewers. Welsh chanteuse Duffy walked away with three awards including best album and best British female singer.

BBC One's second instalment of David Attenborough-hosted 'Nature's Great Event's' drew 4.4m viewers and an 18.7% audience share at 9pm-10pm.

'Grand Designs' on Channel 4 brought in 3.4m viewers (including Channel 4+1 figures) for a 14.1% audience share in the 9pm-10pm time slot. This week a couple from Kent worked on ambitious plans for a zero carbon eco-house built into the side of hill.

On BBC Two, 2.2m tuned into the one-off documentary 'Trouble in Amish Paradise', good enough for a 9.2% audience share.

The programme followed two Amish men living in Pennsylvania who question the fundamental aspects of Amish culture, risking excommunication from their church and total rejection from friends and family.

Earlier in the evening, Channel Five's airing of Uefa Cup football, which saw Aston Villa hosting CSKA Moscow at Villa Park, was watched by 1.6m (6.7%) between 6.30pm-9pm.

In the primetime slot, Channel Five's comedy drama 'Minder', in which Archie Daley thinks he's struck rich after finding a Banksy mural in the home of an unsuspecting housewife, drew 1.4m and a 4.8% audience.
