Torchwood helps BBC One to 2.7m lead over ITV1

LONDON - BBC One attracted 5.6m viewers last night with 'Torchwood: Children of Earth' leaving ITV1 trailing on 2.9m, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The sci-fi drama was watched by 23.9% of the audience at 9pm-10pm, following up its first episode on Monday night, which earned 5.9m viewers and a 26% share.

The five-episode new series is running in the same slot every day this week.

ITV1 scored 2.9m viewers and a 12.3% share with the final round of reality series 'Ladette to Lady', in which Australian women were turned into well-mannered ladies.

The next highest ratings went to Five's 'CSI: Miami', which picked up 2.5m viewers and a 10.7% share, coming in 700,000 viewers ahead of 'Big Brother'.

'Big Brother' managed 1.9m viewers and a 7.6% share at 9pm-10pm on Channel 4, with another 362,000 watching on Channel 4+1.

BBC Two offered the period film 'Girl With A Pearl Earring', starring Scarlett Johansson in a fictional account of the creation of the Vermeer portrait in the 17th century.

Running from 9pm to 10.30pm, it attracted 1.9m viewers and an 8.3% share.
