Postgate joined the BBC in 2003 as an executive producer. In the newly created role he will be responsible for developing the corporation's interactive and programming content for mobile consumers.
Before joining the corporation, he was an emerging channel strategist at digital consultancy Rufus Leonard, where he worked on accounts for the Royal Mail Group, Shell and BT.

"Matthew brings a wealth of knowledge to the role and will drive the BBC's continued success in this field."
Postgate's appointment follows that of Erik Huggers, formerly of Microsoft, who will join as BBC future media and technology group controller later this month. James Cridland, formerly digital media director at Virgin Radio, will take up the post of head of audio and music in July.
