Asda unveils digital Christmas push

LONDON - Asda has made heavy use of digital in a Christmas marketing onslaught.

Central to the festive online campaign is , being billed as a one-stop resource for customers over the festive season.

Reggie the Reindeer provides the face of the push, which builds on the integrated "There's no place like Asda this Christmas" tagline.

Visitors to the site can use a gift finder, a weekly planner, food and drink advice, and tips on making Christmas as easy as possible.

AWA, the Leeds-based full service digital agency that has created the campaign, has also implemented email marketing which will run throughout the Christmas period, affiliate marketing and banner advertising.

"The way in which the ASDA Christmas site works to drive customers both to ASDA.com and in-store highlights just how effective online can be when part of a truly integrated marketing campaign," said Christina Marks, director of AWA.

"The email and online marketing communications we've developed also aim to ensure that ASDA remains front-of-mind for consumers this Christmas."

AWA has been Asda.com's digital agency for three years now. It is solely responsible for all the retailer's email communications.

Walmart-owned Asda was one of a group of supermarket and dairy firms recently involved in a price-fixing investigation by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). Sainsbury's, Safeway, The Cheese Co. and Dairy Crest also admitted liability and the group was fined.

Asda received better press when The Grocer revealed that of all the supermarkets, Asda offers festive goods at the lowest prices.
