AdMob releases download tracking for iPhone apps

LONDON - Mobile advertising network AdMob has developed a tool that measures the numbers of clicks on ads that lead to a completed download of an application for the iPhone from Apple's App Store.

Marketers advertising through AdMob will be able to monitor conversion rates for specific ads through AdMob's network of 8.4m iPhone and iPod Touch devices.

The application also measures conversion rates and cost per download.

According to AdMob, free applications have an average conversion rate of 10%, compared to 1% for paid-for applications.

Games have higher conversion rates than other apps, with up to double the pull of same price non-game apps.

Jason Spero, vice president and general manager of North America for AdMob, said: "Advertisers have been clamouring to get more detailed information from the iPhone App Store and want to use it to maximise the value of their mobile ad campaigns.

"AdMob's new iPhone download tracking gives advertisers the information they need to accurately assess marketing effectiveness, including the return from advertising spend."
