Celibacy app launched for untouched iPhone users

LONDON - A US Christian group is taking the no sex before marriage message hi-tech by launching a PurityRing iPhone app for 99 cents.

Island Wall Entertainment, a self-proclaimed "Christian iPhone App Development Agency", has developed the which can be purchased via the iTunes Store.

Once downloaded, the app displays a spinning purity ring on a user's iPhone or iPod Touch.

However, the impure will be discouraged from downloading the app -- before users can download it, they must demonstrate their commitment to "purity" by agreeing to a pre-recorded pledge.

Henry E Bennett, a director of Island Wall Entertainment, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to reach a whole new generation of people on a platform that has never been used to spread this important message."

A purity ring is worn by people who want to display their virtue in remaining "pure" until they marry.

High-profile wearers of the ring include US boyband The Jonas Brothers.
