X Factor website carries extra interaction for series six

LONDON - 'X Factor' viewers will be able to issue 'Gladiators'-like "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" ratings on contestants as part of the redesigned website, launching to coincide with the start of the sixth series of ITV1's Saturday night hit.

The talented, the deluded and those just seeking their moment in the spotlight will be back on screen on Saturday night, but this time viewers will be able to dispense judgment not just within their own home and by phone vote but also .

The new site has been developed in-house by producers at talkbackThames and the in-house team at its parent company FremantleMedia Enterprises. TalkbackThames produces 'The X Factor' along with Simon Cowell's company Syco.

It also allows comments on news stories, videos and photographs. Everything on the home page can be viewed by categories such as most recent and most commented so that popular content can be found easily.

There will also be playlists for each show, featuring highlights categorised by "best" or "funniest" and so on.

After the shortlisted candidates are announced, the site will include sections on fashion and beauty, food and music. Fans on Twitter can follow via .

Robert Marsh, vice-president of interactive and telephony at FremantleMedia Enterprises, said: "We wanted to create an even deeper, more immersive experience to take the site to the next level.

"Web content can't remain static and we're constantly looking at ways to make online experiences better for fans and complementary to the brand."

The previous 'The X Factor' website was nominated for a Bafta award in 2007.
