Virgin Radio caters to console users

LONDON - Virgin Radio digital stations Virgin Radio Xtreme, Virgin Radio Classic Rock and Virgin Radio Groove will now be available to Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 owners.

Owners of the consoles will be able to access the new Virgin Radio Player by visiting on the console's web browser.

Gamers will be able to use their Wii or PS3 consoles to listen to the stations and watch videos and exclusive sessions of bands.

The Virgin Radio Player will also include an interactive element, where listeners can buy tickets, CDs and download tracks, through the Virgin Radio Ticket Store.

James Cridland, digital media director at Virgin Radio, said: "People are treating the consoles as part of their home entertainment media centre, and now Virgin Radio will be part of that experience."

The station claims that the Virgin Radio Player is the only online player from a UK radio station currently compatible with both the Wii and the PS3, due to its MP3 streaming connection.

Last week, Virgin Radio extended its online offering with a personal travel information service.

The music station's 250,000 online VIP users can now benefit from a new traffic and travel service, as part of its digital service.

VIP users will now be able to access personalised traffic and travel news, based on information they supplied on registration. They will see all incidents on their daily commute and local area on a satellite map of the UK.
