The Un-Rest festival, launching on 24 April, will feature a Northern Soul 'all-nighter' and a dance-off DJd by designer Wayne Hemingway. Panamanian artist Humberto Vélez will also be showing his latest film installation before it heads to Tate Modern later this year.
Artist Alison Kershaw, who is curating the festival, said: "We’ll be discovering how artists have explored the ways that movement and physical disciplines can be used to combat difficult social or emotional situations.
"The festival will also reveal how the revolutionary style of Northern Soul, influenced by aspects of Latin and African American cultures, connects Manchester to the rest of the world."
In 'Drawn to the Beat', artist Naomi Kendrick will lead a giant participative drawing to music performance. A huge scroll will fill the 75ft by 40ft Victoria Baths gala pool, where participants will be asked to think about how they physically express themselves as they animate the empty space. The resulting artwork will remain on display throughout the rest of the festival.
Other highlights will include performance artist Another Adele who will explore her personal history growing up with David Cassidy, David Essex, David Bowie and David Byrne.
Victoria Baths a listed Edwardian swimming pool and Turkish baths complex, and has a long history as a dance venue.
