UBM Live group operations director Mirabelle Chatterjee and UBM international marketing manager Amie Willenberg led the project and collected more than £50,000 worth of donations and goods from event companies including Solutions 2, Thorns Group, SO Group, Denim Creative, Expo Floors and Worldwide Exhibition Specialists.
They will visit the schools in Nairobi for two weeks from 5 December with staff from Melville to deliver the supplies.
Chatterjee told Event: "One of the biggest challenges HSK have had over the years is getting donated goods shipped over to Kenya. With my connections in the industry I spoke to Andrew Fleet of Worldwide [Exhibition Services] and he is shipping all the donations free of charge."
She added: "A lot of the money we received was spent on sports equipment for the schools, which is what they told us they needed. [Thorns Group director of exhibitions] Adam Aston works with a sports company as a football coach and helped us to get equipment from them at a discount. [Expo Floors sales manager] Ben Crutchley plays rugby and got his club to donate a lots of rugby equipment. Everyone has done something small but when it comes together it makes quite a lot."
Chatterjee told Event that the idea for the project came from UBM’s Responsible Business Exhibition in March, where she and Willenburg were inspired by HSK’s work.
Contributions can still be made through the and Willenberg and Chatterjee will be about their experience.
