LONDON - Twitter has done a deal with mobile network Orange to let users upload pictures to the social media site via text message.

Twitter in partnership with Orange for UK first

It is the first mobile network to do an MMS deal with Twitter. Users send picture messages to 86444 and they are uploaded to Twitter via a picture platform created by Orange called Snapshot.

Twitter is not charging for the service, which uses the same shortcode that O2 and Vodafone already used to let subscribers tweet via text.

Mark Watts Jones, head of product management for Orange UK, said: "We've seen over the last year how Twitter is transforming the dynamics of real-time search and breaking news.

"So we're delighted to extend the value of the service by bringing it to mobile, enabling our customers to view and update their Twitter streams and giving them the unique ability to upload photos directly via MMS."
