Turner signs online video deals with YouTube

LONDON - Clips from CNN and Turner Classic Movies will be available on YouTube as Turner Broadcasting signs an agreement with the video-sharing website to distribute its programming online.

Short clips from CNN International and TCM will be made available via specially branded channels on YouTube similar to the channel set up by the BBC.

Animated comedy and live action channel Adult Swim and the newly launched Nuts TV -- a spin-off of the IPC lads' mag -- are also included in the deal.

Starting this month, a number of free bite-sized video clips from Turner will be uploaded to YouTube each week, while CNN International will update its online news clips on an hourly basis.

The deal between Turner Broadcasting Europe and YouTube follows a number a number of content deals brokered by the broadcaster earlier this year.

Turner has already secured distribution deals with internet streaming services Vingo and Jalipo. A similar deal with video-sharing website Dailymotion is also understood to be nearing completion.

The broadcaster has also confirmed the rollout of CNN International on internet TV service, Joost.

CNN has used Joost since May this year, but until this month the service was only available as an invitation-only beta test.

Casey Harwood, Turner's European senior vice-president for digital media, said getting the broadcaster's programming on to YouTube and Joost ensured the company was keeping up with changing consumer habits.

Harwood said: "Joost is an indicator of how the next generation will access and view television in the digital space."

Turner is looking into the development of opportunities for advertisers as it extends its online distribution footprint.
