BBC uploads classic EastEnders scenes on YouTube

LONDON - The BBC is paying tribute to its long-running soap 'EastEnders' by loading classic moments onto video-sharing site YouTube.

Clips from the show available for fans to enjoy again include the Sharon/Mitchell brothers love triangle and Dirty Den serving Angie divorce papers on Christmas Day.

The footage is among 44 EastEnders clips uploaded by BBC Worldwide onto its YouTube channel as a celebration of the storylines featured since the primetime show was first broadcast in February 1985.

The clips, available from today, also include the classic "Frank seducing Pat naked" scene, voted the fifth top soap moment of all time in 2004, and many more favourites for die-hard fans to view.

Simon Danker, director of digital media at BBC Worldwide, said: "These clips are some of the most memorable scenes from 'EastEnders' to date and are classic moments of a show that an entire nation has grown up with.

"Our YouTube channel gives us this fantastic opportunity of sharing a huge collection of first-class footage with viewers, allowing them to relive their favourite 'EastEnders' moments at their convenience."

BBC Worldwide has where it showcases a mix of British TV from 'Doctor Who' and 'Red Dwarf' to 'Life on Mars' and 'Hustle'.

The BBC announced it was to launch a dedicated channel on YouTube in March. As well as clips from hit shows, the channel also features specially created content.

The BBC said it was using the agreement to help pull in new audiences to the proposed BBC iPlayer service and to boost revenues for BBC Worldwide to supplement the licence fee.
