TalkSport sign up Carling and Campese for Rugby World Cup

LONDON - Broadcaster TalkSport has kicked off a six-figure ad campaign to promote its live 'heavyweight coverage' of the Rugby World Cup 2007, which begins in France this Friday.

The station has booked 96-sheet billboards as well as posters in more than 600 pubs across the UK, featuring the strapline 'Heavyweight coverage of the Rugby World Cup 2007'.

The creative work for the campaign was by Lionhouse Creative and the media buying was by MindShare.

The ads feature former England captain Will Carling and former Australian full-back David Campese, who will guest on a 21-show series of special rugby programmes for the duration of the tournament.

Calum Macualay, marketing director at TalkSport, said: "This is a major commitment by the station behind our coverage of the Rugby World Cup and reflects our continued investment in both top class talent and marketing behind the brand.

"Will Carling and David Campese have played the game at the highest level and are also consummate broadcasters."

Meanwhile, the broadcaster has landed a £250,000 Universal McCann devised sponsorship deal with the Telegraph for the tournament, featuring branded score flash updates from games, a daily Rugby World Cup drivetime programme, and reports from The Telegraph's rugby journalists.
