The Sun turns to GCap Media to boost Bizarre podcast

LONDON - The Sun has turned to radio group GCap Media to boost the weekly podcast from its Bizarre gossip column with music content and promotion via local radio.

The Sun originally launched the podcast linked to the Victoria Newton-edited column a year ago.

Now GCap's involvement means music will be introduced into the show, with a focus on live sessions and helping to break new bands. GCap's production company Creation will produce it.

The podcast's title has been changed to 'The Sun's Bizarre Podcast powered by MusicControl', reflecting the link with GCap's evening radio show Music Control.

Music Control is aired from 7pm to 10pm on GCap's One network of 43 local radio stations, including Birmingham's BMRB.

The stations will promote the podcast, which users will be able to download from their websites.

Bizarre editor Newton said: "I'm really excited about this new Bizarre podcast. The show has gone from strength to strength since we launched it over a year ago. But working with GCap means we will have even bigger acts, better music and even more gossip."

Earlier this year magazine and radio group Emap revealed plans to launch a national digital radio station as an extension of its weekly gossip magazine Closer.

The plans depend on the Channel 4-led radio consortium 4 Digital Group winning its bid to manage the capacity for new national digital radio stations.
