Hewson owns a company called Nude Skincare, which sells natural probiotic products. She is claiming the word ‘nude' and the branding used by McCartney are very similar to her own range of products.

The news follows Colgate-Palmolive's announcement that it is suing rival Johnson & Johnson for using the word 'Total' to promote Johnson's Listerine Total Care range.

Colgate said its Total toothpaste brand is one of its leading marketing tools. It filed a lawsuit in New York stating the brand name is being used in ‘violation' of its registered trademark.

It also filed a separate lawsuit against oral care company Chattem, which produces Act Total Care mouthwash.
