The intensive refurbishment project, which has already begun, will see the former war ship's Admiral's Quarters transformed into a private dining room and event space in time for next month's Christmas celebrations.

The Ward & Ante Room will also be restored, bringing back the original character that would have been found in 1959, while The Gun Room and The Ship's Company Dining Room will be updated with new carpets, AV equipment and broadband.

Permanently moored next to Tower Bridge, the venue currently hosts around 300 events a year.

"Thanks to this unique partnership of commercial investment and historical expertise, you can now step back in time and soak up the atmosphere of a bygone age," said the ship's director Brad King.

"The restoration has been meticulously researched from the original plans, historic photos and even the archaeology found as work progressed," he added.

To celebrate the restoration and to commemorate the original launch of the ship, Sodexo Prestige plan to throw an exclusive party on 17 May next year.
