Smyle made a profit of £502,000, a 44% increase on the previous year. The company also saw a 22% rise in turnover to £5.9m during the period, which saw it bag several Olympic contracts and work for .
Rick Stainton, managing director of Smyle, told Event the company attributes 25% of the profit increase to improved efficiency through its use of the BS8901 management system since 2010.
"We have created a new transport role to coordinate our movement of equipment and staff more effectively," said Stainton. "We were spending thousands of pounds a month on couriers and now we’re spending less than £1,000. We installed the whole office with LED lighting and we now manage construction so we can reuse sets for other events, avoiding skips which cost hundreds of pounds. These things take an initial investment, but when you crunch the numbers it makes a lot of difference."
Smyle is a partner in , which is holding its first live event in January 2013.
Stainton said the profit surge was also partly due to new account wins in the automotive, media and IT sectors and the retention of key clients.
The agency’s video and design services have grown by 100% over the year, with content creation support becoming its fastest growing offering.
Smyle expects its success to continue next year. It's forecasting a record 60% profit increase to more than £800,000 for the year ending March 2013, along with a turnover increase of 15% to £6.8m.
