The sets, which will be available in the spring, will be powered by Yahoo!'s application platform Widget Engine, which gives access to widgets designed to complement and enhance the TV viewing experience.
Select models in Samsung's 2009 flat-panel HDTV lines will support the new TV Widget service, called Internet@TV. The Javascript and XML applications offer content, information and community features available on the internet through the remote control.
Users will be able to use widgets to find news, follow stock tracking, view videos and share photos. Widgets will be available across a range of Yahoo! brands, including Flickr, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Weather and Yahoo! Finance, and third-party brands including USA Today, YouTube, and eBay.
Samsung will also open the platform to third party developers.
