The Prince of Wales has signed a deal with News Corporation-owned publisher HarperCollins and is expected to announce a deal with a film production company soon.
The book, which the Prince is writing with former Friends of the Earth chief Tony Juniper, is due to be published in 2010 and a children's picture version will follow in 2011.
Harmony will point an accusatory finger at the business and banking sectors and argue that the West's pursuit of profit and technological development is costing the world dearly -- in terms of climate change, ecological destruction, an erosion of values, poverty and economic instability.
The film version of 'Harmony' will be produced in the US.
Gore's film (and book) 'An Inconvenient Truth' tackled the subject of climate change, proved a commercial success and won him an Oscar.
Charles, who is no doubt hoping he can replicate Gore's level of success, has long been an advocate of green measures such as organic farming.
He said in a statement: "I believe that true 'sustainability' depends fundamentally upon us shifting our perception and widening our focus, so that we understand, again, that we have a sacred duty of stewardship of the natural order of things.
"In some of our actions we now behave as if we were 'masters of nature' and, in others, as mere bystanders."
He said society needed to rediscover "a sense of harmony".
Jonathan Burnham, senior vice-president and publisher at HarperCollins, said: "As a British citizen, I grew up aware of The Prince of Wales's commitment to green issues at a time when global awareness of these looming challenges was most certainly in its infancy.
"Harmony weaves together The Prince of Wales's own prescient journey, revealing his most recent observations and practices advancing ecological and economic sustainability, with a deeply inspiring vision encompassing the connection and consequences of our action to the very survival of the planet."
