Philip Taylor's exit from The Apprentice draws 7.9m viewers

LONDON - BBC One's 'The Apprentice', which last night saw Philip Taylor fired after flirting with fellow contestant Kate Walsh, attracted 7.9m viewers according to unofficial overnight figures.

The brash estate agent's team lost the challenge to sell products from new British inventors. Taylor was fired when Sir Alan Sugar was told about his relationship with Walsh.

'Midsomer Murders', which this week saw Barnaby investigating the death of the co-owner of a glassware factory in Midsomer Magna, attracted 4.1m viewers and a 17.3% share of the 8pm-10pm audience.

The final episode of this series of 'Grand Designs', which revisited a couple with a bright Modernist house on a beach in South Devon, netted 2m viewers and an 8.1% share of the 9pm-10pm audience. Including Channel 4+1 figures it reached 2.3m viewers.

On Sky Sports 2 the second leg of the Chelsea vs Barcelona Champions League semi-final, which resulted in the London side's exit from the competition, brought in 2m viewers and an 8.5% share between 7pm and 10pm. The peak audience was 2.9m.

This beat the second instalment of BBC Two's weather documentary series 'Snow', which managed 1.3m viewers and a 5.1% share of viewing, and Five's 'Extraordinary People' documentary, which attracted an audience of 618,000 (2.4%).
