The mobile operator has confirmed it will begin selling the iPhone later this year via its Orange shops, e-commerce store and telesales channels, as well as via selected high-street partners.
In an effort to hit the ground running, Orange has this morning launched a for customers to log their interest in the device.
The deal brings an end to O2's exclusive contract to sell the iPhone in the UK, a privilege it has had since Apple launched the touchscreen handset over here in November 2007.
In a statement issued this morning Orange said it would release details of pricing and tariffs for the iPhone 3G and 3GS 'in due course'. It is understood that the mobile operator will attempt to undercut O2, which only offers the iPhone 3G and 3GS for free as part of an 18 or 24 month contract.
According to reports, Orange fought off tough competition to secure the UK deal from a range of operators including T-Mobile, which has the iPhone contract in Germany. Orange now offers the iPhone in 28 countries and territories globally, including France.
