Google co-founder and president Larry Page told a conference in San Francisco that users will be able to upload video content, which Google will catalogue, host, rank and distribute.
Video blogging -- or vblogging -- would be the latest step in Google's mission to expand services for user-developed content, like blogs, following its acquisition of Blogger.com in 2003, and photographs.
The announcement follows Google's launch of a beta service that lets users search for video-based content from the likes of PBS, Fox News and the NBA.
The January launch followed a similar launch by start-up company Blinkx, which searches video content from the BBC, Sky, ITN and US channels including ABC and NBC.
Page said that video is more difficult to deal with than audio or podcasts due to bandwidth demands and hosting costs, but that Google might consider a similar experimental service for audio content, according to reports.
