Google adds customise feature to news service

LONDON - Google is launching a new service that will let users of its news service pick out the headlines that are of the most interest to them.

The customise feature has been added to and is available in nine languages.

It allows people to customise the front page of news, choosing from 22 local editions, and can deliver stories in a customised global, multilingual format.

Other features include adding custom sections, which will appear in the users' left navigation bar and regulating the number of headlines displayed for each news section. In addition, it lets users arrange the sections in the order that the user prefers, such as entertainment news towards the top, and share their customised news page with others by emailing the URL.

With revenues from internet searches rising exponentially, the battle is on from the major providers, such as Google, MSN and Yahoo!, to build loyalty among users.

Features introduced by Google recently include the launch of its desktop search feature, and a new service which makes television news clips available as well as text-based news.
